Are you going to see an orthopaedic surgeon and want to know what is covered by your private health insurance? Generally speaking, private health cover is only claimable for in-hospital treatment and not outpatient specialist appointments. Rebates cannot be claimed for outpatient orthopaedic consultations. If you have a referral from a GP for a consultation you can however claim a Medicare rebate.
Fees are payable at the time of consultation, typically a Medicare rebate applies. Our friendly team will be able to submit your claim to Medicare on your behalf and in turn, Medicare will process a rebate directly back into the bank account that you have registered with Medicare.
If Dr Gupta has recommended you undergo a surgical procedure you will be provided with an estimate of fees to have this performed. In summary, you can expect the following:
Surgical Fee By Dr Gupta
An estimate of fees payable to Dr Gupta to perform the surgery itself will be provided to you which will detail the full amount payable prior to surgery as well as the Medicare and health fund rebates applicable.
Surgical Assistant Fee
Dr Gupta may require assistance during the surgical procedure. You will be provided with information regarding these fees prior to surgery. The administration team for the surgical assistant will then liaise with you regarding this. Medicare and health fund rebates are applicable.
Anaesthetic Fee
There will be an anaesthetic fee for your surgical procedure. You will be provided with information regarding these fees prior to surgery. The administration team for the surgical assistant will then liaise with you regarding this. Medicare and health fund rebates are applicable.
Hospital Fee
When being admitted to hospital for surgery you may have a health fund excess amount which is payable to the hospital. The hospital will perform a health fund check and advise you prior to admission if there is any amount payable at that time.
Additional Fees
During your hospital stay you may require radiological investigations or pathology services for which fees may be payable, Medicare and health fund rebates are applicable.
Physiotherapy Fees
You may require post-operative rehabilitation with a physiotherapist for which fees will apply. Health fund rebates are applicable and in some cases Medicare also.
